Audience:

The Municipality of. Chalco in the State of Mexico is one of the places where most densely populated in all of Mexico (6, 437 inhabitants per km2). Location:

Chalco Municipality is located in a valley east of Mexico City. Fo rm part of an ancient lake that lay at the time of the Aztecs from what we now call Mexico City to the town of Texcoco. Covering thousands of hectares.

For hundreds of years, the lake was running out of water until it allowed the construction of houses.

Population growth was uncontrollable to the point that poor families were building homes in places closer floodplain, ie, a few yards of open channels that allow the output of wastewater from Mexico City .

1. Locate the states that surround the town of Chalco

4. Make a thematic map showing population density in the municipality of Chalco.


D. Shows how the disaster

1. Search the following images:
 A map of the Old Lake Texc.
 A satellite photograph of the municipality of Chalco.
 A chart that explains the percentage of natural disasters affecting the world population.
 A diagram showing how advanced the so-called Cold Front (North).

2. Request an interview with the institutions in charge of flood risks for them to explain how the disaster.
3. Prepare your Power Point report to Congress to request the State Government of Mexico, the Fund's allocation of natural disasters to remedy the situation of loss of affected families, provided that this problem will not be repeating the next year.
